Four modular units of unequal weight, statistical tests in every paper, a synoptic final unit, and an A* that lives in the last two units. We tutor unit by unit - social and cognitive, biological and learning, applications, and clinical - to the exact combination your child is taking.
The qualification is fully modular. Two IAS units and two IA2 units make up the full International A Level, each banked and resat toward the final grade. The units are unequally weighted, and the IA2 units carry synoptic assessment.

Units are available in January and June and can be resat, with the better of the two most recent attempts counting. Statistical tables and formulae are provided in every paper. The A* requires an A overall plus at least 90% across the two IA2 units combined.
None of these are about ability. Each one is a mechanism in the exam, and every one of them is trainable.
The A* rule requires an A overall and at least 90% across Units 3 and 4. Students who coast after a strong IAS find the top grade lives in the harder, synoptic IA2 units.
The Psychological Skills sections pull methods, issues and debates from across the whole course. Students who revise Unit 4 in isolation are under-prepared for how the questions actually work.
Modular freedom means an early, under-cooked unit sits in the aggregate untouched. Families often do not realise it can be resat, so a fixable score quietly caps the grade.
At least 10% of the marks are mathematical - choosing and using tests such as Wilcoxon, Spearman and chi-squared, and reading critical-value tables. This trips up otherwise strong essay writers.
Each unit has high-tariff extended-response questions. Marks come from developed evaluative argument, not description, and from using named studies as evidence.
